Confirm equipment and mating parts before freezing cable configuration
A multifibre insertion-loss result depends not only on the link under test, but also on reference setup, test reference cords and end-face condition. Fluke’s official material notes that test-reference-cord loss must be handled correctly to prevent it from skewing the link result.
An RFQ or acceptance plan should therefore not state only one “loss value.” It should specify test method, reference setup, instrument interface, reference-cord revision, end faces, polarity, limits and report format together.

Can a normal patch cord replace a test reference cord?
That substitution should not be assumed. The test reference cord and its setup must match the project method and remain traceable in the result.
Why inspect end faces before and after testing?
Contamination can affect measurement, and cleaning can introduce contamination, so reinspection is needed.
Does MPO testing require one lane only?
Whether every lane is tested depends on the project method and acceptance requirement. A multifibre lane map must be verifiable.
What must a report include?
Project/revision, instrument and setup, reference cords, link under test, lane results, pass/fail rules and date.
