Confirm equipment and mating parts before freezing cable configuration
Cleaning an MPO end face is not “wipe and connect.” Official Fluke and CommScope material recommends inspect first, clean when necessary, then inspect again. An MPO array has a larger surface than a single-fibre end face; contamination can move within the array and affect insertion or return loss.
Field work should include the cleaning tool, end-face type, pinned/unpinned construction, adapter ports and reinspection in the maintenance and acceptance procedure. A defect that cannot be removed should not be hidden through repeated wiping; assess it using the project process.

Why does MPO inspection deserve extra attention?
MPO has a multifibre array and larger end face, so contamination can migrate across more than one fibre position.
Can an APC end face use a UPC inspection tip?
Do not assume compatibility. Use inspection equipment that matches the end face and interface.
Is inspection still needed after cleaning?
Yes. Official best practice is to reinspect after cleaning because cleaning itself can introduce contamination.
Does high loss always mean contamination?
No. Also check mating, gender, end face, polarity, damage and the full link test setup.
